Passenger experience breaks down without real-time operational data

  • Queues grow before Operations has a clear signal to act on.
  • Counters, scanners and open resources do not always match real demand by flight or airline.
  • Passengers lose useful time in mandatory processes and arrive less willing to spend in the boarding area.
  • Commercial areas receive traffic, but often without objective metrics on capture, dwell or conversion.
  • Security teams need visibility without needlessly opening critical networks or compromising CCTV.

Passenger flow

Passengers in line: every minute in process is time taken away from the post-security commercial window.

A real-time operational view of the airport

KSI builds an operational representation of what happens in every zone, queue and service point. AI processes images in real time and turns passenger flow into metrics you can act on.

Measure

Wait times, queue length, density per m², people processed, open resources and dwell time by zone.

Compare

KPIs against operational standards, internal SLAs, flights, airlines, times and days.

Alert

Automatic notices when a queue exceeds a threshold or a zone gets congested.

Optimize

Staffing, resource openings, cleaning, security, passenger flows and commercial performance.

How dwell time translates into non-aeronautical revenue

From check-in to the commercial area, measured end to end

The same platform covers every stage of the passenger journey inside the airport.

Check-in

What KSI measures

Wait time, people in line, open counters and kiosks, processing rate and presentation curve.

Operational action

Adjust counter openings, compare airlines and anticipate peaks by flight.

Security control / PIR

What KSI measures

Wait time, density per passenger, open scanners, real rate per scanner and saturation alerts.

Operational action

Reduce friction before the commercial area and keep service levels.

Immigration

What KSI measures

Wait time, m² per passenger, open booths and common, Fast Track or biometric lanes.

Operational action

Compare performance by lane type and detect critical bottlenecks.

Arrivals and baggage

What KSI measures

People waiting, open belts, total claim time and passengers who collected baggage.

Operational action

Improve the arrival experience and assign resources in arrivals.

Customs

What KSI measures

Wait time, open scanners, processing rate and passengers processed.

Operational action

Understand real capacity and anticipate congestion on peak flights.

Curbside and taxis

What KSI measures

Passengers in line, wait time, processed and threshold alerts.

Operational action

Coordinate transport demand and avoid congestion outside the terminal.

Boarding and commercial area

What KSI measures

Dwell time, traffic by corridor, store entries, capture, heatmaps and dwell by zone.

Operational action

Optimize layout, campaigns, commercial mix and the value of leases.

Cleaning and services

What KSI measures

Occupancy by zone, restroom usage, traffic build-up and operational events.

Operational action

Trigger tasks on real demand: cleaning, maintenance and passenger assistance.

Security is not an add-on requirement: it is part of the product

KSI can be deployed without interfering with video surveillance or requiring broad access to critical networks.

Edge / On-premise

AI processing can run inside the airport, on local servers or workstations.

Metadata only

The system generates anonymous indicators, without storing operational video as an analytic product.

Controlled access

Roles, permissions, multi-factor authentication, ACLs and segregation by user, area or tenant.

Secure connection

Integration via site-to-site VPN, encryption and network policies defined by the airport.

Optional parallel network

If the existing CCTV is not enabled, KSI runs on a dedicated network of cameras or separate streams.

KSI does not require changing the airport's security operation. It adapts to it: existing CCTV, local edge or a dedicated parallel network, according to each operator's policy.

Architecture and parallel network

Many airports prefer not to open their critical CCTV to third parties. That is why KSI can be deployed with a parallel analytics architecture: dedicated cameras or streams, local processing and network separation. The airport keeps control of security; KSI generates the operational indicators.

A

Existing CCTV

How it works: KSI connects to authorized streams from the existing camera system.

When it fits: Lower cost and fast deployment. Ideal when Security allows a controlled integration.

B

Local edge

How it works: Processing runs inside the airport. Only metadata or dashboards leave.

When it fits: Reduces video exposure and keeps information under the operator's control.

C

Parallel analytics network

How it works: Dedicated cameras, VLAN or streams for KSI, separate from critical CCTV.

When it fits: A direct alternative when the airport does not want to grant access to its security network.

Operational, commercial and security impact

Operations

  • Better compliance with service levels in critical queues.
  • Resource sizing based on real demand and the presentation curve.
  • Processing rate per counter, kiosk, scanner or control booth.
  • Early alerts to avoid saturation before it hits the experience.
  • Historical data by flight, airline, time slot and terminal to plan ahead.

Passenger experience

  • Less uncertainty about wait times.
  • Lower stress before security, immigration or boarding.
  • Smoother flow between check-in, controls and the boarding area.
  • More quality free time to eat, shop or rest.

Commercial and non-aeronautical revenue

  • Measurement of post-security dwell time, the most relevant window for retail and food.
  • Heatmaps to identify high-traffic and underused zones.
  • Store capture: traffic in front of the store versus actual entries.
  • Benchmarking between tenants in the same category.
  • Objective information to renegotiate locations, layout, campaigns and commercial mix.

Security

  • Greater visibility of crowding and operational deviations without replacing the VMS.
  • The option to filter permanent staff to improve metric accuracy.
  • Architecture compatible with network constraints: local edge, VPN, ACLs and parallel network.
  • Roles and permissions to separate Operations, Security, Commercial and tenant views.

We resolve security, privacy and deployment questions

Does KSI need access to the security CCTV?

Not necessarily. It can run on existing cameras with controlled permissions, on local edge processing or on a dedicated parallel network for analytics.

Are passenger images stored?

The recommended approach for airports is to process images to generate anonymous metadata and indicators. KSI works with anonymous data, without images as an analytic product.

Can it integrate with airport systems?

Yes. KSI integrates via APIs with flight systems, resource allocation, BI dashboards, messaging and reports.

Is it only for queues?

No. Queues are the most direct case, but the same platform enables heatmaps, passenger journey, occupancy, dwell time, cleaning, tenants and commercial analysis.

What if the airport does not want to install new sensors?

KSI can use the existing infrastructure. If the CCTV is not enabled for security reasons, the alternative is a parallel analytics network, more contained and controlled.
